Donors Can Help Build Wellington's Barrier-Free Playground

The Williamsons are hopeful that their generosity is just the beginning of a giving campaign that the entire community will embrace. The Williamson's donation will provide playground equipment such as slides, a wheelchair accessible glider and accessible stationary cyclers. Wide walkways and ramps will enable any child, including those who use braces or wheelchairs, to access all of the play areas.

The Village would like to add additional features including large and small shade structures, benches and paver pathways. Through the Wellington Community Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3), interested individuals have the opportunity to make tax-deductible donations to sponsor these additions to the playground.

"A donation is a greater benefit than just for Scott's Place, "said Del Williamson. “You can watch children enjoy the benefits of what your money has done." In addition to the Williamson's personal donation, the GE Foundation has donated $50,000 through its matching program, with an additional $50,000 anticipated next year. Del Williamson is a former employee of GE, having retired in 2004. The Home Depot Foundation has also provided a $10,000 donation.

Scott's Place will be located on Forest Hill Boulevard on Village property adjacent to the Wellington Community Center. The playground, along with an amphitheater and the new municipal complex, will comprise the Village's Town Center.

All donors to the project will be commemorated in monument signs recognizing individual or corporate gifts of more than $1,000. Opportunities exist to become a major sponsor or to sponsor individual pieces of play equipment or other structures in the park. For more information about Scott's Place and sponsorship opportunities, call Rachel Fenech at (561) 791-4787.
