The goal of SHINE, which stands for Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders, is to help Florida elders, caregivers and family members to understand and receive the health insurance coverage they need through Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Assistance, Long Term Care & Insurance Planning, as well as claims and other health care issues. SHINE provides free, unbiased and confidential information that empowers seniors to make informed health care choices. For general information, call 1-800-96-ELDER (1-800-963-5337). If you require a personal appointment, your information will be relayed to the local SHINE volunteer, who will, in turn, contact you directly.In addition, a SHINE program volunteer is hosting a Medicare 2012 Seminar on Monday, October 31st from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Wellington Community Center located at 12150 Forest Hill Boulevard. This free seminar will cover a variety of topics about Medicare, Prescription Drug program and Medi-Gap insurance. Participants must preregister at the Wellington Community Center or Village Park. Online registration is available by visiting www.wellingtonfl.gov, clicking on the Parks & Recreation icon and selecting Online Registration in the left-hand pane. Seating is limited.
