Additional Plans Revealed for Wellington’s 9/11 Remembrance Weekend
Saturday, September 10th- Jeff Annas Memorial 5K Run – 8:00 am to 11:30 am Entry Fee: $25 preregistration or $30 day of event. Race begins at the Patriot Memorial (12198 Forest Hill Blvd.). Sunday, September 11th
- Parade of Heroes – 8:30 am – 9:00 am
A procession of uniformed personnel will march down Forest Hill Boulevard from Montauk Drive to the Wellington Amphitheater.
- The Fire Chief’s Association of Palm Beach County’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony – 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Wellington Amphitheater. Keynote speaker Firefighter Ron Parker, FDNY. Watch live on PBC-TV Channel 20.
- Patriot Memorial Dedication Ceremony – 10:30 am to 11:00 am at Wellington’s Patriot Memorial. Watch live on PBC-TV Channel 20.
Media Parking: On September 11th, Media parking will be available at the Wellington Amphitheater via the Country Club Drive entrance. For media assistance, please contact Andrea DiFonte, Media Specialist, at (561) 791-4123.
Public Parking: Wellington will offer free shuttle service at the Mall at Wellington Green (10300 Forest Hill Blvd.) for those attending the events on Sunday, September 11th. Buses will arrive every 15 minutes from 7:45 am to 1:00 pm at the bus shelter near the Macy’s department store. Public parking will not be available at Wellington’s Town Center. Drivers should be aware that they may experience delays on Forest Hill Boulevard between Montauk Drive and Country Club Drive between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
About the Fire Chief’s Association of Palm Beach County’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony: This annual remembrance ceremony comes to the Wellington Amphitheater for the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The ceremony includes a keynote speech by Firefighter Ron Parker of the New York City Fire Department who responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center. The event also includes a traditional Tolling of the Bell Ceremony, 21-gun salute and remarks from members of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Chief’s Association of Palm Beach County.
About the Patriot Memorial: Wellington’s New Patriot Memorial includes one of the largest sections of steel salvaged from the collapsed World Trade Center as well as an eternal flame, fountain and glass panels inscribed with the names of the victims of 9/11.
Free Pool Admission: Visitors can enjoy free admission at the Wellington Aquatics Complex (12100 Forest Hill Blvd.) on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, September 11th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
